Montana Repertory Theatre Presents: Hearth: A Yuletide Tale at the Masquer Theatre
Pick What You Pay
Stephen Jay Clement is an award-winning singer, songwriter, and actor from Missoula, Montana
With a vulnerable and introspective approach to songwriting likened to that of Ben Abraham, Hozier, and Ben Platt, Stephen's bare, confessional music is laden with the deeply personal color of a small-town singer-songwriter.
Stephen’s sharp, stirring lyrics poetically articulate the intolerable love, debilitating grief, and existential longing of the holistic human experience. Their work as a composer, lyricist, and performing artist has garnered vast public praise, tragically keeping them from their humble dream of eating huckleberry porridge and red lentil dal in a weathered cottage by the sea.
"A Rhythm Runs Through It is one of Montana's top music podcasts, hosted by Callie Morris and engineered by Matt Olson. Episode 9, the season 1 finale, features Stephen Jay Clement as guest and musician. In addition to live performances of their new music, this episode explores Stephen's view on societal expectations, veganism, queerness, and the songwriting process."
Episode 9 of A Rhythm Runs Through It is now available to stream on the platform of your choice.
"Noise is a demo album of 9 stripped songs about the first 20 years of my life, and some of the people I passed along the way. Being a sort of time capsule of my early years of songwriting and bedroom production, I wanted these songs to sound just as they would if I sat down at my old upright piano and sang them through; just as they did when I sat my sister down and finally shared my music with somebody else for the first time."
Noise (Demo Album) is now available to stream on the platform of your choice, and will soon be selectively re-released as a fully-arranged studio EP.
"AliVe provides a vulnerable and introspective exploration of grief, as well as the remnants of love it helps us recall. AliVe also challenges us to reevaluate the validity of the constructs we actively choose to operate within every day; to lovingly confront to the physical, emotional, and spiritual brutality that’s numbingly been made a normality for so many for so long, and to replace it with compassion, intention, and integrity."

"Next to Normal is a musical with book and lyrics written by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt that was nominated for 11 Tony Awards in 2009. It is known for its complex portrayal of mental health disorders and treatments (including bringing light to ethically controversial treatments, such as ECT), particularly regarding bipolar disorder, depression, and suicidal thoughts and actions. It follows a family that has lived through tragedy and loss highlighting how tragedy and the resulting mental health issues affect all members of the family.
Our production dates were chosen carefully in order to align the AM Theatrical’s goal to benefit groups in need with the national Suicide Prevention Awareness as well as Depression and Health Screening Months. This production will partner with mental health organizations in our community for talk back opportunities after each performance so that this production can serve as a catalyst for people to talk openly about the mental health crisis in our country as well as the need for safe spaces to discuss grief, loss, depression, anxiety, and mental health in general.
The themes and performance dates they are associated with are as follows: Thursday September 22: Maternal Mental Health Friday September 23: Child Loss, Support Systems, and Allies Saturday September 24: Suicide Prevention and Mental Health in the Indigenous and LGBTQIAS2+ Communities Thursday September 29: Youth at Risk Friday September 30: Substance Use Disorder Saturday October 1: Grief, Depression, and Depression Screening"
